Understanding Classical Sociology: Marx, Weber, Durkheim

Although Emile Durkheim and Max Weber are the founders of the modern theory of sociology, Karl Marx’s views on society had a profound impact on the evolution of modern sociology. There are many differences in Marx’s and Weber’s interpretation of capitalism and their perception of society in general. Marx, Weber and Durkheim together comprise the historical core of the sociological tradition. While they each come from very different perspectives and offer profound contributions to the field, they each have tried to address problems associated with the advent of modernity. Weber is often cited, with Émile Durkheim and Karl Marx, as one of the three founding architects of sociology.
